A Black tie Backyard Wedding | Columbia, SC

Rachel and Billy said “I Do” by the pond at the home she grew up in. It was a perfect day that began with her getting ready in her childhood bedroom and ended with their closest friends and family dancing the night steps away from the cabin on-property that her grandfather built. We loved her champagne toast seating chart and the plated dinner, and a full band is always a good idea! The bold flowers were the perfect pop of color to complement the blue and gold decor. It threatened to rain all day but held off with just some sprinkles.

As soon as Rachel and Billy met while he was working in the Upstate, they were inseparable. A few months into dating, they knew it was meant to be. They love traveling totherand taking on projects around their house. Rachel says “Life is so easy when we are together, we make each other laugh, but also bring out the best in each other.”

Tell us about your wedding day memories

It was the most perfect backyard wedding. Our ceremony wast the most memorable part of our wedding day. I remember every part of it; from walking down the isle with my daddy, to Mike reading my great grandads poem and singing the Lords Prayer, our vows to one another, and ultimately just how it felt to marry the man of my dreams in such a special place to me with all the people I love as witness. We had the best cake while our family and friends gave sweet toasts. We shared a bourbon shot with our wedding party. Billy and I bottled it ourselves on a trip to Louisville, KY and buried it one month before our wedding in the exact spot we said I do. On our big day Billy and the boys dug up the bottle and we cracked it open to share with our wedding party after the ceremony.

Another sweet memory was just seeing months of hard work come together so beautifully. My parents did all of the landscaping around the pond, Billy and my dad replaced the deck on the cabin, and my mom and I also did a lot of the decor and signage ourselves so seeing how well it all turned out was great. We could not have done it though with out Renee and Allie, and everyone else involved.

Why did you want to hire Katharine Marie Weddings?

I met Allie in Junior League and always enjoyed our conversation, I began following her businesses on social media shortly after we met and knew when the day came for me to get married that I wanted Allie to help make my day extra special.

What advice would you give to couples planning a wedding?

Start early but don’t get caught in the small things. If you like something pick it and stick with it.
