Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Stiles | Athens, GA Wedding | 9 Oaks Farm

A few weeks ago, I shared Chris and Mhari's dating and engagement story. today I'm sharing their wedding day with you. It was held at 9 Oaks Farm in Monroe, Georgia - just outside of Athens.

Why did you choose 9 Oaks Farm?

We wanted to go to the mountains and have a small intimate wedding, but instead of having all of our friends and family travel, we decided to have it closer to home. We are both from the Athens / Monroe area, so this worked out perfectly.

Planner note: 9 Oaks Farm is run by the same folks who run Thompson House and Gardens! Included in the rental is florals (can vary with number of bridesmaids and centerpieces) and they have a great vendor list. I'll do a more in-depth blog on these locations soon!

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

Mhari – Getting ready was by far my favorite part. I never went to prom or a formal so it was so nice to have someone else do my hair and makeup, plus I got to hangout with my best friends + soon to be cousin + sister in law. Chris – Our First Look and a moment we shared alone after the ceremony.

Favorite part together – First Dance. Our song was Yours by Russell Dickerson. We were in the car lost about what song to use as our first dance we heard it on the radio and looked at each other and just said "I know!"
Other special moments – We loved our first look, finally getting to eat our cake that we saw all morning while getting ready. We also got a moment alone after our ceremony, and watched the Braves win after our guests left! These will all be moments we look back on.

What wedding planning advice do you have for other brides?

Our main piece of advice is to remember that this is your wedding. Your family and friends may want to be involved, so make sure that you clearly communicate any expectations or things you need help with, and follow through asking them to complete those things, before your wedding day.

What is the best part about marriage so far and any marriage advice to share?

We love being married! It is a lifelong sleepover with your best friend.

Our advice - You are a unit, before you make decisions without the other one present make sure you tell people you will check with the other to make sure about it whatever it maybe - you are two people with two very different personalities – talking is everything + super helpful.

Sweet Details

My bouquet had a lot of sentimental value, which is what these two my Grandmother + Grandfather taught me from a very young age.

The Story behind the little bee - this is to honor my Grandfather (he + my great grandfather both graduated from Georgia Tech). Ever since I can remember he wouldn’t ever say a traditional bye or a goodbye. He would always say "bee bye". I was maybe 6 when I asked why he always said "bee bye", he told me because sometimes goodbyes are good and other times they are hard like when people leave and go to heaven those aren’t good byes, he went on to say, "You know how you can always hear a bee humming when it gets close. The bees never seem angry until you bother them, they always seem so happy. So that’s why I say bee bye, always. Because wither it is good or bad, You’ll always be as happy as a little bee that found a flower."

The lace around my bouquet is from my grandmother's dress and veil over 70 years ago. It had daisies on it and my nickname from her when I was younger was "little miss daisy". Her grandmother had given her the same nickname as a child.

Why you chose to hire a month-of coordinator?

IT MADE EVERYTHING EASY!!! If I didn’t have one I would have been a stressed out mess. It was so nice to have someone there, if there were questions about anything that the bride wasn’t bothered with; overall it made the day super easy and breezy. I was as calm as cucumber, plus I got to talk to one of cousin in laws about our wedding day so that was a huge plus.
